The timeline presents the chronology of events that had a significant influence on the development of the debates over construction of Park51. ​

The first reactions follow right after the project presentation by Imam Rauf to New York Board Commission​. It then grows slowly, as more and more actors come into play. In May 2010 there is a common drop in attention and media coverage of the controversy. However, in June the debates liven up, engaging even more actors from both supportive and opposing sides and reaches its peak in August of the same year. ​

After the rejection of landmark  status, the project receives its final city approval. The dispute loses its relevance and actors leave the stage, as developers proceed with construction stages .
